European Suzuki Association - Teachers Newsletter Vol 36 2016

12 There is great news on income for the Trust in 2016 as well as good prospects for 2017. Give a Child a Teacher The ESA’s generous fundraising drive under the title ‘Give a Child a Teacher’ produced income of over £5,000 – a cheque for £4,500 was ceremoniously handed to Haukur F. Hannesson, the Chairman of the Trustees, by the Chair- man of ESA, Martin Rüttimann at the spectacular Suzuki Gala Concert at the Royal Albert Hall, organised by the BSI on 27 March 2016. This was followed by further donations to the campaign and some, more recent, direct donation so that the total income for 2016 now stands at £6,923. The trustees thank all the many contributors, individuals, groups and associations and will report more fully next year. Cooperation between countries has been a major positive factor in Suzuki development this year. Teacher training for Violin and Piano in Latvia continued with Koen Rens and Mary McCarthy respec- tively. Helen Brunner’s Violin course in Russia also continues, with exams planned for November 2016. There was a new Russian Piano course directed by Kristinn Örn Kristinsson, and a new Piano course in Estonia (Grant Mead and Marzena Jasinska), both producing excellent exam results in 2016. Income during the year to 31 December 2015 Most donations came from private donors, all with a deep interest in the Suzuki Method™. Some of the donations were further enhanced by tax credits under the Gift Aid scheme (donors have to pay UK income tax in order to qualify); we were able to claim credits of £500. A fundraising campaign organised by the ESA was started at the end of 2015, but funds were not received by the Trust until 2016.
