24 T he ESA are deeply shocked by the senseless acts of violence being perpetrated against the innocent people of Ukraine and we find the Russian state’s invasion for what is a brutal war against a sovereign country horrific. The Suzuki community of Ukraine are utmost in our thoughts at this desperate Ɵme and we are focused on doing everything we can to protect the safety of our children, parents and teachers. To support Suzuki families in Ukraine and abroad, donaƟons of money, instruments and lessons are being organised and details can be found on the Ukraine page of the ESA website. In addiƟon, Russia has introduced Visa restricƟons on EU and UK CiƟzens, condemning these countries ‘unfriendly’. Due to the issues around travel to Russia, it is not possible to offer in-person Teacher Training courses at this Ɵme and for the foreseeable future. Statement from ESA Board re UKRAINE An excepƟon has therefore been made to allow Teacher Trainers to offer Online Teacher Training Courses to teachers resident in Russia. Statement from ESA Board re Teacher Training RUSSIA T ravel to Russia is indirect, lengthy and expensive and some countries are advising against all travel to Russia due to the lack of available return flight opƟons and increased volaƟlity in the Russian economy. War in Ukraine - Update on Appeals for help from the Suzuki Community Nataliia Koptienkova August 2022 Dear Friends Ukrainian teachers and parents are very grateful for the financial assistance we receive from various countries. Over the past two months, this financial support has helped Ukrainian teachers go to study in European countries and aƩend workshops in Spain and Poland. 18 violin teachers received 6,500 UAH each for a trip to a workshop in Poland. 2 piano teachers received UAH 7,000 each for a trip to a workshop in Spain. We provided financial help for the mother of student Natalia Hryshina in the amount of UAH 6,000, whose mother fell ill and needed an operaƟon. In July, UNSA organized and held an orchestral workshop in Kyiv, which was aƩended by students and teachers from Kyiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Severodonetsk, Cnernihiv and Rivne region and other places. On July 10-14, 2022, the parƟcipants of this event had orchestra rehearsals and art workshops every day. At the end of the workshop, students and teachers performed at a concert and presented a program of Ukrainian pieces. The following was spent on the organizaƟon of the workshop, food and accommodaƟon of the parƟcipants: 69,425 UAH - food 12,139 UAH - accommodaƟon 39,840 UAH - rent of halls for rehearsals 4,440 UAH - rent of a concert hall 8,300 UAH - transport costs 12,000 UAH - holding a dance master class and art therapy classes Link to the final concert of the orchestral workshop: hƩps://youtu.be/FH3fS9kW71g It was a grand event, which took place thanks to the financial support of many donors from around the world. Students and pupils living in the harsh condiƟons of war were able to support each other through music. Thank you all for helping us! Next, we plan to spend money on organizing the training of Ukrainian students who will study according to the Suzuki method in Ukraine, as well as on the support of Suzuki teachers who remain in Ukraine and work in war condiƟons.
