28 D uring 2022, the Trust conƟnued its work to pursue its objects ‘to advance the educaƟon of the public, parƟcularly children and young people, about all aspects of the teaching methods, philosophy and pracƟces of Dr Shinichi Suzuki in Europe and elsewhere.’ Teacher Training conƟnued to be the central focus, and this is strongly reflected in the financial results. The Ukrainian Teacher Training programme, which was the only project in 2022, conƟnued to thrive despite the difficult situaƟon, and the Trustees agreed a deficit budget to support the expansion with record project expenditure of GBP 21,197. At the same Ɵme, fortunately, donaƟons were substanƟal with a total figure of GBP 15,710, of which a very generous grant from the ESA of GBP 10,000 and a grant of GBP 2,000 formed the bulk. The rest was thanks to fundraising and individual donaƟons. The Trustees are grateful for them all. When further small amounts of income and expenditure are added, the overall deficit for the year, was GBP 5,203. Teacher Training Projects Ukraine The Violin course directed by Anna Podhajska was the most acƟve of the courses in the last year. Exams for Violin teachers were held in Gdansk on 28 July 2022, where seven Level 3 and one Level 2 teacher passed. The course conƟnued from September with a total of 34 trainees, nine at Level 4, twelve at Level 3, and thirteen new trainees at Level 1. Anna Podhajska writes in response to news of the grant from the Suzuki Teaching Trust, “It’s so great to have such support for those who are fighƟng every day for human rights and giving children hope and love in these extreme difficult circumstances. This group is also amazing - traveling for many hours to meet for training in a town on the border with Poland and Ukraine. We just received the news from you right before our 2nd live training in Przemysl city (800 km from my own town...!) and they are working very hard with great enthusiasm - they are all sending big thanks!” A new Cello course with five parƟcipants starƟng at Level 1 and directed by Eulalia Subira Adelantado also started in September. The course will be held partly online, and partly in Barcelona and Warsaw, joining the violinists. The courses are both due to finish in December 2023. Marzena Jasinska conƟnued her training course for Ukrainian Piano teachers online and, aŌer assessments in November 21, had planned a new online course for levels 1, 2 and 3 to start in March 2022. Due to the war, the course did not start Ɵll May 2022 and by that Ɵme several teachers were living outside Ukraine and had been separated from their pianos. Following applicaƟons for help, the Trustees decided to buy digital pianos for the teachers to be delivered to a variety of European countries. Exams are planned for March 2023. Türkiye The Trustees received an applicaƟon from the Turkish Suzuki AssociaƟon. They had been able to fund their own Violin teacher training Suzuki Teaching Trust European Suzuki Teaching Development Trust A charity registered in England (number 1092897)
