29 Suzuki Teaching Trust European Suzuki Teaching Development Trust A charity registered in England (number 1092897) unƟl recently, but high inflaƟon now meant that the value of the Lira against the Euro had fallen so much that most teachers were unable to afford to pay the full fees. The applicaƟon was for The Trust to cover part of the costs of a new Violin Teacher Training Course directed by Wilfried van Gorp and due to start on 2 January 2023. The Trustees agreed to help fund the course so that it could go ahead. Future Projects The Trustees are commiƩed to support teacher training for both Violin and Cello in Zimbabwe, but sadly the current poliƟcal and financial situaƟon means that it is not possible to run a course. There are sƟll contacts between Teacher Trainers and the local Teachers, but the situaƟon remains difficult. The Suzuki Teaching Trust will conƟnue to accept applicaƟons from countries within our region. The development of online Teacher Training has opened up new possibiliƟes for further development, but personal contact between trainers and trainees will remain important. About the Trust Since becoming a registered Charity in 2002, the Trust has supported many large and small Teacher Training project. Our overhead costs remain minimal with Trustees covering their own expenses. As the current financial situaƟon of the Trust is excellent following the major legacy received from our former Trustee, Jean Middlemiss, in 2021. With the conƟnued help from the European Suzuki Community and, especially the commitment from teacher trainers, we are confident that we are in a good posiƟon to conƟnue the work of developing the Suzuki approach to Music EducaƟon.
