20 2024 Teacher Trainer Appointments Daan De Vos VIOLONCELLO, BELGIUM T he day of my final exam at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, Wim Meuris and Veerle Van Gorp, teacher trainers of violin, asked me to join their Suzuki school Kortjakje to build up a cello class. This moment was the start of a wonderful journey along the Suzuki path! As a child, I started playing cello in the traditional way at the age of five. I do not have a lot of memories about those days of playing. My early memories of music start when I joined the youth orchestra ‘Amadeus’ made up of talented students from Kortjakje. I started my Suzuki training in 2009 with Chantal Latil and Ruben Rivera. The Suzuki training had a huge influence on me, as well as on my personal pedagogical experience and style. Working with little kids was new for me at that time. I discovered the enormous potential of learning of small children and also their openness to learning new ways. One of the most important tricks of the Suzuki method is the repetition /reviewing and the creative way to learn new things. It gives a child so much confidence! After more than 10 years of teaching in Kortjakje, and observing numerous talented colleagues, I wanted to spread the Suzuki philosophy to more cellists in Belgium and abroad. During the instructorship, I met many wonderful teacher trainers from whom I learned so much and I am very thankful for them and their guidance. How exciting is this life-long learning path! I am very happy to be able to share my experience and passion about the Suzuki Method with the next generation in Belgium and abroad!
